Memorial Day Weekend + Tom & Teddy

These fallen heroes represent the character of a nation who has a long history of patriotism and honor  and a nation who has fought many battles to keep our country free from threats of terror.
Michael N. Castle

This year we skipped our annual beach trip - traveling at almost 9 months pregnant is no fun - and instead headed to the lake for a fun filled Memorial Day weekend.  Our long weekend consisted of Pontoon rides, swimming, food and lots of family time.

One of my favorite things about this weekend were Brad and Jack's matching Tom & Teddy swim trunks, this is the second matching pair my boys have worn. The quality, design and fit of their swimwear collection have made us huge fans of this Australian company.

Fall Family Bucket List

Fall is finally here and so is my fall family calendar! I love this season and all the activities related to it. Every year we compile a list of all the things we want to do as a family and try to accomplish as many as we can, it's now become an annual tradition. Check out what we have planned for this fall!

All Aboard!

I've been looking forward to a lot of the activities in this year's Advent Calendar but the one I've been most excited about was the Polar Express. Last Sunday, we took Jack (with his friend Price) to a live presentation of the Polar Express at our local history museum. While he really didn't understand what it was all about, my son is obsessed with trains and couldn't believe he was actually going to "ride" on a train.

Waiting to board the Polar Express.

All aboard!

So excited.

After the presentation Jack and all the kids were treated to hot cocoa, cookies and a special visit with Santa!

2012 Advent Calendar

It's December! Which means it's time for our 4th annual advent calendar.  Every day from December 1st until December 25th, we have planned a Christmas related activity. Some are big, some are small, some are for the entire family while others just for Brad and I to share. Throughout the month, I will be sharing some of those activities and traditions and hope you stop by and do the same.

Before we start with our calendar of events let me share with you this year's advent calendar.  I usually create an online version only but this year, inspired by Jordan Ferney's fabulous mini tree advent calendar, I decided to created my own DIY version. Each little box contains the activity of the day plus a little extra surprise (think toy cars, yoyos, holiday candy...).

advent calendar 2012

25 mini pine trees - I got mine at Hobby Lobby. 6 pack for $1.99 (plus an additional 30% off - score!)
24 2"x3" boxes - Also found at Hobby Lobby
1 3"x3" box (for December 25th)
Label Template

This DIY advent calendar is super simple, only 3 steps!
1. Glue trees onto the lid of the box
2. Print and cut labels - bend them around with a pen if you want them to be wavy
3. Add quick dry glue to the end of each flag and attach it between the branches
Jack loved opening the first advent calendar box!

Fall officially starts tomorrow which means it's time for our annual Fall Family Calendar! It's hard to believe that year has almost gone by, look at Jack - he was such a little baby then. I'm excited to continue with those activities that are now becoming family traditions. What kind of activities or projects do you have planned with your family for this Fall?

Traditions: Now & Then

Two years ago, when I was almost 5 months pregnant, my husband and I went on our last beach trip of the season - an annual tradition to celebrate his birthday and to officially say goodbye to summer. Continuing with our tradition, this year we planned our annual beach trip and it happened to be to the same beach (and hotel) we stayed in back in 2010.

We decided to recreate a very special picture from exactly two years ago but this time, we had a very special addition.

September 8, 2010: Almost 5 months pregnant
September 9, 2012: With an almost 20 month old

Brad wanted to participate as well after all, he also took a picture with a "Coming Soon Jack 2011" sand sign!

I can't wait to add on to this fun traditions in the years to come!

4th of July 2012

I hope everyone had a fun and save 4th of July, we had a blast! Jack stayed up until 10:30 pm to watch the fireworks  - he absolutely loved them. He didn't whine or cry even though it was over 3 hours past his bedtime.  How was your 4th? Who did you and your family celebrate?

My son is obsessed with watermelons!

We are back from our annual family vacation to Hilton Head. Ever year we head to the beach to celebrate my father in law's birthday. This year it was extra special since it was his 60th birthday.

I haven't uploaded all of our images but I wanted to share some that I have. I will post a few more later on this week.

How was your Memorial Day Weekend?
