Back to School Fashion...for Moms!
at 8:10 AM
When our kids go back to school, so do we. After tackling that long list of school supplies, picking out dress code-worthy and kid-approved clothes, and prepping lunches and backpacks for the first day of school, moms usually don't have a lot of time left to think about themselves, much less their wardrobes. However, now that most of the bigger kiddos are settling into school, it's time for mom to think about herself by getting that closet ready for fall. Focusing on a few of the latest, wearable trends, I'm going to compile a list of super cute mom must-haves that are perfect for your back to school, too.
Not Your Mom's Jeans
Just because you're a mom, doesn't mean your jeans have to look like you are. It's okay to feel trendy and, dare I say, sexy, in your denim. Well, Lyst's curators think you deserve to be, plus they know that jeans are on trend for fall. That's especially true with the flare leg variety, which really create a lovely silhouette thanks to a universally flattering cut. The objective is to eliminate the extra-long mom booty and the panty-skimming low rise by choose something with a mid rise. This, along with a bit of stretch in your jeans, will ensure the perfect fit. Pair this retro style with wedges and boots for fall.
Fall is the perfect time to show off these shoes, and Cosmopolitan's fashion team agrees. Open-toe booties look great with just about everything, plus they're the perfect summer to autumn transitional piece. Comfy, practical, and stylish, the stacked heels many of these boast are great for long stretches of shopping, just as well as they are on date night. Booties with cut-outs would be awesome paired with rolled-up boyfriend jeans and a sweater while out and about with kiddos or with a sweater dress for family holiday gatherings. Pair these peep-toe pumps with jeans, skirts, dresses, sweaters, and more.
City Chic in Shorts
You might think that shorts are a no-no for fall, but you couldn't be more mistaken. I've got my eye on leather (or pleather, whichever you prefer) shorts this season for their chic appearance and versatile styling. Not only do they look great at whatever length you're comfortable wearing, but they also work really well with booties, which are perfect for autumn. Pair your leather shorts with a soft sweater, opaque tights (a cute patterned pair would look great, too), and your favorite boots for a quick and stylish ensemble to get you out the door.
In the Trenches
Another perfect busy mom piece, predicted to be hot by writers at The Every Girl, is the trench vest. I love this because it's super versatile and adds a nice, stylish layer to almost any outfit. You can pair a trench vest with short sleeve or long sleeve tops, with jeans, skirts, dresses, and even shorts. Dress it up with pointed pumps, a clutch, and oversized sunnies, or dress it down with sneakers, skinny jeans, and aviators.
So there you have it, fellow fashionable mommies, four great ideas for your own back-to-school shopping trip. Fortunately, these are as simple as they are stylish, and should blend seamlessly into your current closet. Whether you're chasing your children, running errands, or sitting in that never-ending car line, you'll look chic regardless of the activity.
